Death of a pet causes real grief and celebrities are telling us how it feels

I have just become certified as a Grief Coach for Pet Loss which coincidentally happened at the same time as British/American Comedian,  and host of Last Week Tonight, John Oliver was paying tribute to his late dog Hoagie during his EMMYS acceptance speech.

The reason this was newsworthy is that he swore because the EMMYS started to play their wind-up music before he had finished his passionate tribute.

Many of us experience animal grief when we lose a pet, and it is often underestimated or misunderstood by society, which can intensify the loss. For that reason, I love it that John Oliver chose to include Hoagie in his speech and that he kept speaking until he had finished his testimonial despite the wind up music. It is important that we speak about our grief when we lose that unconditional love that pets can provide.

It also reminded me of a very moving and equally funny letter that British actress, presenter and host, Sue Perkins wrote as testament to her dog Pickles, which I have included here to help give strength if ever you feel uncomfortable living in grief and mourning at the loss of a beloved pet.

And if you are in need of a Grief Coach, or know of someone who is, get in touch!
