What can you do on Animal Rights Day?

Today I got up early to drive to Horsham to buy our Vegan Christmas dinner. When I got home I realised that today is International Animal Rights Day!

There are animals across the world who are victims of a wide range of exploitation, cruelty and  other depravities. This can happen in Australia too, but is less visible with  less attention and less outrage.

With all  the injustice around the world – is there anything that we ourselves  can do  in support of animal rights? I believe that there are and this list is by no means exhaustive, but if you see something that you can do, please do:

  • Go Vegan for the Day (or Longer):
  • Volunteer at Animal Shelters:
  • Educate Yourself and Others:
    • Read books or watch documentaries about animal rights, such as Dominion, Earthlings, The considerate Consumer, Facing Animals
  • Support Ethical Brands:
    • Purchase cruelty-free products and encourage others to do the same.
  • Wildlife-Friendly Garden:
  • Plant native flowers and shrubs to support local wildlife habitats.
  • Adopt an Animal in Need:
  • Consider adopting a pet or symbolically adopting wildlife through organizations like WWF.
  • Pledge to Take Action:
    • Commit to ongoing actions like reducing meat consumption, avoiding animal-tested products, or supporting stronger animal protection laws.
  • Light a Candle:
    • Honor the animals who have suffered or lost their lives due to human actions.
